Hannover-burgdorf snags icelandic star sigvaldi gudjonsson
TSV Hannover-Burgdorf has secured a significant reinforcement for their handball squad, signing Icelandic international Sigvaldi Gudjonsson from ChampionsLeague participants Kolstad Handball. The 31-year-old has inked a three-year deal with the German club, set to begin in the summer of 2026.

Gudjonsson joins hannover to replace steinhauser
The move fills the void left by captain Marius Steinhauser, who is transferring to Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the summer. Hannover's sporting director Sven-Sören Christophersen lauded Gudjonsson as an experienced and proven right-winger, emphasizing his consistent performance in top-tier competitions, particularly the Champions League. “Sigvaldi brings valuable leadership qualities alongside his scoring prowess and efficiency,” Christophersen stated.
The addition of Gudjonsson will create a formidable right-side partnership with homegrown talent Daniel Weber. Hannover coach Juan Carlos Pastor echoed this sentiment, noting Gudjonsson’s compatibility with the team’s project and his ability to replicate Steinhauser’s profile. “He’s a reliable scorer, adept at shooting seven-meters, and a strong tempo player,” Pastor explained.
Gudjonsson expressed excitement about joining Hannover and competing in the Bundesliga. “Playing in such a great arena in front of a large home crowd means a lot to me, and I’m eager to contribute to a team with such potential,” he said. He aims to use this opportunity to re-establish himself for future national team call-ups after representing Iceland in multiple major tournaments, amassing 230 goals in 85 caps.
The signing underscores Hannover's ambition to compete at the highest level. Gudjonsson’s arrival is a clear signal of intent as the team looks to build on recent successes and challenge for silverware. The acquisition of a player with his experience and pedigree is a statement about Hannover's long-term vision.
