Cologne dominates german ice hockey awards: juvonen named top player
The Cologne Sharks swept the board at the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) annual awards ceremony, with Janne Juvonen earning the coveted awards for both Goaltender of the Year and Player of the Year. His coach, and fellow Finn Kari Jalonen, was honored as Coach of the Year.

Juvonen's double honor signals sharks' dominance
The eight-time German champion solidified their position as the league's top team, shattering the previous regular-season points record held by Adler Mannheim (116 points in the 2018/2019 season). This sets the stage for the upcomingplayoff quarterfinals, kicking off next week. Wolfsburg and Schwenningen, along with Bremerhaven and Nürnberg, will battle for the final two qualification spots.
Jalonen, who will return to Finland after two years, downplayed his individual achievement, focusing instead on the players. “Now is the time for the players. My work as a coach is done at the end of the regular season,” he stated.
ERC Ingolstadt’s Riley Barber was recognized as Forward of the Year, joining Liam Kirk of Eisbären Berlin as the league's leading scorers, each with a remarkable number of points. Nicolas Mattinen of Adler Mannheim was named Best Defenseman, while 19-year-old Fabio Kose of Löwen Frankfurt Junior was awarded Junior of the Year.
The Sharks’ comprehensive victory underscores their sustained excellence and sets a high bar for the remainder of the season. Juvonen’s performance, in particular, has been a cornerstone of their success.
