Rome to deploy 38 new traffic cameras by end of july

Rome is set to boost its traffic surveillance with the activation of 38 new Photored cameras by July 30th, doubling the number of monitored intersections to 15.

Where the new cameras will be located

The new installations will complement the 11 existing Photored cameras already in operation across the city. The 49 total cameras will be strategically distributed among 15 high-risk intersections, selected by the city authorities based on statistical data.

The list of monitored intersections includes:

How photored cameras work

Photored F17Dr cameras, produced by Italtraff and certified by TÜV Italia, can detect red-light violations day and night. When a vehicle runs a red light, the system takes two photos: one at the stop line and another at the center of the intersection, both accompanied by the state of the traffic light, elapsed time since it turned red, and exact timestamp of the infraction.

The 24.2-megapixel camera with a white flash flash ensures clear images up to 30 meters, even at night. A separate HD video camera captures a 15-second clip of the incident.

Sanctions for running a red light range from €167 to €665 and a six-point deduction from the driver's license (12 points for new license holders).
