Stojilkovic eyes swiss national team amid serie a push

Filip Stojilkovic, a striker with Swiss roots and Serbian heritage, is making a compelling case for a move to the Swiss national team. The 26-year-old has been steadily regaining prominence with strong performances, culminating in a Serie A stint with Pisa.

Once touted as a major talent for Switzerland, Stojilkovic's career path has been anything but linear. After a promising first half of 2023 with FC Sion, he transferred to SV Darmstadt in the German second division. However, the physically imposing forward struggled to translate that form, scoring only three goals in 24 appearances. Two subsequent loan spells, first to KS Cracovia in Poland, proved transformative. He flourished in Poland, netting seven goals and contributing three assists in 19 games.

This resurgence caught the attention of Serie A club Pisa, and Stojilkovic joined them in January. Now, with a fresh start in Italy, he's hoping to solidify his place and potentially earn a call-up to the Swiss national team. Switzerland faces a challenge finding prolific goalscorers with Swiss passports, making players like Stojilkovic valuable assets.

“If I had to choose between two offers, I would like to play for Switzerland. We have the best and most beautiful country in the world,” Stojilkovic told 20 Minuten. A strong showing in Serie A could well see coach Vladimir Yakin include him in his next squad selection. The competition for places will be fierce, but Stojilkovic’s determination is palpable.

The Serie A season is rapidly approaching its conclusion, and the race for places in the Swiss national team is heating up. Stojilkovic’s journey from a promising prospect to a Serie A player is a testament to his resilience, and his desire to represent Switzerland is clear.
