Schnarr set for swiss move after impressive cologne season
Canadian forward Nate Schnarr is poised to leave the Kölner Haie of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) for a move to HC Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland, according to reports. The 27-year-old, a key contributor to the team’s offense, sees his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Schnarr's scoring prowess fuels swiss interest
Schnarr finished as the fifth-highest scorer for the Haie this season with 40 points – 17 goals and 23 assists in 40 regular-season games. The versatile offensive player’s performance has attracted attention, particularly from Swiss club HC Ambri-Piotta. The team is currently dominating the regular season with a 1:18 record.
The move would mark Schnarr's fourth European stint in as many years. After leaving the AHL in 2023, he played for Jyväskylä in Finland before joining Köln. He also spent time with Lahti Pelicans in Finland, amassing 91 points in 114 games over two seasons. A notable highlight was his participation in the 2025 Spengler Cup with Team Canada.
Schnarr, a 6'2", 92kg forward, will join a team that boasts familiarity. He has played alongside Janne Juvonen, who recently extended his contract with HC Ambri-Piotta. Juvonen previously guarded the net for HCAP between 2022 and 2025.
While the Kölner Haie haven't indicated whether they'll attempt to retain Schnarr, his statistical output suggests a significant loss. His departure would represent another significant roster change for the DEL club as they look toward the playoffs.
The Swiss league is known for its high level of competition, and Ambri-Piotta is clearly looking to bolster its already strong lineup. Schnarr’s experience in European hockey will undoubtedly be a valuable asset.
