Scheib nears speciality world title after are giant slalom
Julia Scheib of Austria is poised to claim the overall women's Giant Slalom World Cup title after dominating the final race in Åre, Sweden, on March 14, 2026.

Scheib’s victory within reach as rast and hector chase second
The race, the last giant slalom event of the season before the finals in Kvitfjell, saw Scheib start with a 560-point lead, leaving only Camille Rast (471 points) and Sara Hector (429 points) with a mathematical chance of catching her. A strong performance today would secure her first World Cup crystal globe.
The women’s World Cup season culminates this week in Kvitfjell, but all eyes are on Scheib. The Giant Slalom discipline has been her domain this year, and a victory here would solidify her place as the best in the world.
Eight Italian skiers competed in the race, including Federica Brignone, who concluded her season after Olympic golds in Super-G and Giant Slalom. The event in Åre has a rich history, with Annemarie Moser-Pröllwinning the first giant slalom there in 1970/71. Brignone herself has won twice on this course.
The race results will be broadcast on RaiSport, Raiplay, and Eurosport.
Scheib's potential victory isn't just about points; it’s a statement. She has consistently outperformed her rivals, demonstrating a level of dominance that few have achieved in this discipline. The question now is not if she wins, but by how much.
