Rams Open Preseason with Tie Against Chiefs

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Rams began their 2026 preseason campaign with a 6-6 tie against the Kansas City Chiefs today in Kansas City, featuring debuts for rookie quarterback Ty Simpson and several other players.

Ty Simpson threw his first career touchdown pass, a 9-yard screen to Dean Connors, in the third quarter, giving the Rams a 13-9 lead. However, the Rams struggled to maintain momentum, trading field goals with the Chiefs throughout the game. Simpson finished the half with 9-for-11 passing for 74 yards. The Rams attempted a Hail Mary on the final play of the half, but it was incomplete, preserving the 6-6 tie.

The Chiefs responded with a 35-yard field goal by Harrison Butker in the second quarter, tying the game at 6-6. Chiefs running back Emmett Johnson had a touchdown called back due to a penalty. Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett saw action for two series, completing 4-of-6 passes for 38 yards.

Ty Simpson led a 42-yard drive in the third quarter, culminating in a 40-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis, giving the Rams a 6-3 lead. Rookie cornerback Al'Zillion Hamilton made a key pass breakup. Rams rookie Keagen Trost was ruled out with a hamstring injury after just one series.

The game remained a back-and-forth battle of field goals, with Harrison Butker adding a 59-yarder late in the third quarter to put the Chiefs up 9-6. The Rams struggled to generate offensive production, totaling just 23 yards in the third quarter.
