The San Diego Padres have officially selected catcher Ethan Salas from the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas to join their major league roster. This marks the culmination of a strong season for the 20-year-old prospect, who has steadily impressed with his offensive abilities and defensive skills.

Salas’s Rise Through the Minors

Salas, currently ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 prospect for the Padres, has spent the last 24 games in Triple-A El Paso, demonstrating a remarkable ability to hit. During that time, he posted a .326 batting average, complemented by three home runs and 20 RBIs. His on-base percentage reached a solid .378, showcasing his ability to get on base consistently.

Triple-A Performance Highlights

His Triple-A debut on July 29th against the Albuquerque Isotopes was a strong one, with a 3-for-4 performance including a single, double, triple, and walk, contributing to two RBIs. He followed this up with a home run on August 7th in Reno and a four-RBI performance on August 16th against Salt Lake. Salas then embarked on a 10-game hit streak from August 4-16, batting .385 with 15 hits, six extra-base hits, three home runs, and 15 RBIs. Throughout the month of August, he led the Pacific Coast League in RBI (18) and total bases (36), and was tied for the lead in walks (9) and hits (22). Notably, he also led all PCL catchers with nine stolen bases prevented, demonstrating his defensive prowess behind the plate.
