Nagelsmann under fire for communication, babbel calls for improvement

Germany's national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is facing mounting criticism for his communication style, with former player Markus Babbel calling for the 34-year-old to improve his approach.

Nagelsmann's public statements spark controversy

Babbel, a 1996 European champion, accused Nagelsmann of making inconsistent statements that lead to unnecessary speculation and criticism. The 53-year-old former defender cited the example of the recent controversy surrounding the return of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, which he felt was poorly handled by the federation and Nagelsmann.

“The communication of Julian is simply bad,” Babbel said in an interview with SPORT1. “Instead of making so many unnecessary statements, he could have explained the Ecuador game and silenced the entire discussion.”

Babell also compared Nagelsmann to a “petulant child” who misses opportunities to address concerns and instead fuels the fire with his public comments.

However, not all former players agree with Babbel's assessment. Mike Hanke, who played for the national team, defended Nagelsmann, saying that the coach deserves more trust and that his situation reminds him of the controversy surrounding Jürgen Klinsmann in 2006.

But for Babbel, the criticism of Nagelsmann is justified, given the coach's own role in creating the controversy. He recommended that Nagelsmann seek advice from DFB Sports director Rudi Völler to improve his communication.
