Kielce axes dujshebaev amidst championship struggles
Talant Dujshebaev is no longer the coach of Vive Kielce, a swift and decisive move announced by the Polish club following a string of disappointing results. The firing comes as a desperate attempt to inject life back into a team battling to retain their domestic title.

A calculated risk, or a rapid descent?
The club cited a need to ‘awaken the team’ and improve their chances in the ongoing league competition as justification. Dujshebaev, speaking to MARCA, acknowledged the situation, framing it as a necessary reaction to secure the team’s future. Frankly, it reads like a cornered animal.
The decision, reportedly reached after extensive discussions between club officials and the coach, was ultimately driven by a shared commitment to the team’s continued development. A somewhat convoluted rationale, considering the stark reality of Kielce’s recent performance. Let’s be clear: they’ve been hemorrhaging points.
Dujshebaev, brought in back in 2014, had previously guided Balonmano Ciudad Real – later Atlético Madrid – to considerable success, culminating in a Champions League triumph in 2016. However, the arrival of Krzysztof Lijewski as interim coach represents a significant shift. The financial troubles that have plagued the club since the departure of Bertus Servaas in 2023 have undoubtedly contributed to this downturn, diminishing the team’s overall potential.
The loss in the Champions League playoffs – a 32-32 draw followed by a 29-26 defeat to Szeged – and the subsequent collapse against Wisla Plock in the Cup highlighted a worrying trend. Add to that the impending departure of key players like Alex and Dani, heading to the Bundesliga, and it’s evident that Kielce is undergoing a period of profound instability. These players leaving represents a significant loss of talent and experience.
Lijewski will now step into the role, tasked with steering the team towards a championship challenge. But the shadow of Dujshebaev’s tenure – a period of unparalleled success – will undoubtedly loom large as Kielce attempts to rebuild.
