After a four-year hiatus in Milan, the Next Gen Finals will return to Italian soil in 2026. Saudi Arabia, which controversially secured the event in 2023, has unexpectedly withdrawn, paving the way for a swift and decisive shift. Italy, bolstered by its status as a tennis powerhouse – boasting the world number one and three players within the top ten – seized the opportunity, leveraging a robust organizational model admired internationally.

Beyond the big names: a national investment
But this isn’t simply about boasting a few top players. Italy’s tennis infrastructure is remarkably comprehensive, hosting a diverse range of tournaments, from the prestigious Internazionali BNL d’Italia to the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna. And, crucially, thanks to a recent acquisition of a licensing agreement with Belgium, Italy will soon host its own 250-level grass court tournament starting in 2028 – a significant step in the country’s ambitions to nurture talent from the ground up. The Federation is also actively pursuing the Billie Jean King Cup, further cementing its commitment to the sport.

The decision to prioritize Southern Italy, with cities like Naples and Bari vying for hosting rights, underscores a deliberate strategy.
