Hornke calls it quits, imminent real estate venture set to launch
The Magdeburg handball scene is reeling. Tim Hornke, a cornerstone of SC Magdeburg’s recent championship run, has hung up his boots, citing a desire for a less frenetic life.
A shift away from the arena
At 32, Hornke, born in Hannover but forever tied to Magdeburg, is trading the relentless pressure of professional handball for a burgeoning real estate venture. He’s not chasing a fairytale retirement; instead, he’s leveraging the stability he’s built with a company – Immobilienmanagement Tim Hornke – that’s already showing significant promise. It began as a quiet outlet during his playing days, a way to decompress amidst the constant demands of the sport. Now, it’s poised to become his primary focus.

More than just a game
“I’m genuinely grateful for the adrenaline rush being gone,” Hornke admitted in an exclusive interview. “It’s a welcome change to have a bit more breathing room. But let me be clear – I’ll miss the lads tremendously. It’s not like I'm disappearing into a hole, though. I’m still right here in Magdeburg, and I plan to continue attending games, just to catch up with the team.”

Building an empire, brick by brick
Immobilienmanagement isn’t starting from scratch. Hornke already possesses a small, yet growing, portfolio of properties. He’s focused on property management and brokerage, with plans to significantly expand its holdings. “We’ve got a solid base to work with,” he stated, “and we’re aggressively pursuing new opportunities. It’s a hands-on business, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenge.” The company’s website, still under development, reflects this ambition – a testament to Hornke’s drive.
A magdeburg legacy
For Hornke, Magdeburg represents far more than just a club; it’s a deeply personal connection. “I started my professional career here, and I’m finishing it here,” he emphasized. “This city, this team – they’ve been a significant part of my life. My wife, my children, they’re all here. Long-term, Magdeburg is where we’re committed to building our future.” The sentiment is palpable, a quiet declaration of loyalty and gratitude. It’s a compelling story of transition, of trading the roar of the crowd for the calculated risks of the real estate market – but one that firmly roots him in the heart of German handball.
