Former Vikings Star Everson Griffen Arrested Again

Former Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl defensive end Everson Griffen was taken into custody early Wednesday morning for a second time this month, this time after an incident involving a state trooper and a Taser.

Second Arrest in Recent Weeks

According to Hennepin County Jail records, Griffen was booked at 5:38 AM on August 26th, facing a misdemeanor charge for “penalty for not complying with a police officer.” Guy Still, an Assistant Manager at WCCO-TV, reported on X (formerly Twitter) that a State Trooper deployed a Taser during the encounter while Griffen was walking on I-394 near downtown Minneapolis around 3:00 AM.

Previous Legal Trouble

This arrest follows Griffen’s previous arrest in Winona County last month for a traffic violation – clocked going 62 mph in a 40 mph zone, resulting in charges for an ignition interlock violation. He was released shortly after.

Vikings Career and Recent History

Griffen spent 11 seasons with the Vikings, appearing in 156 games and recording 79.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions. He played with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys in 2020 and 2021 before returning to the Vikings for his final season in 2021. Last month, Griffen announced he is almost one year into sobriety.
