FedEx St. Jude Championship: Im Leads as Spieth Makes Early Statement

Round 2 of the FedEx St. Jude Championship is underway Friday at TPC Southwind in Memphis, with players continuing their push for a strong start to the FedExCup Playoffs. The PGA Tour's postseason opened Thursday with the top players in the standings battling for position in the first of three playoff events. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and the rest of the field return to the course looking to improve their standing heading into the weekend. With a limited field and no cut after two rounds, every shot matters as players chase valuable FedExCup points and positioning in the playoff race.

Jordan Spieth Starts St. Jude Second Round with a Bang

Jordan Spieth entered Friday in a five-way tie for first place, and he picked up where he left off. Spieth made a 16-foot birdie putt on No. 1 to get himself to 6-under par right out of the gate.

Robert MacIntyre Withdraws from St. Jude Championship

Robert MacIntyre withdrew from the FedEx St. Jude Championship after enduring a challenging opening round. On Thursday at TPC Southwind, MacIntyre battled oppressive heat with the index soaring above 100 degrees. He carded a 12-over-par 82, recording three double bogeys, a triple bogey, and just one birdie, his toughest round since joining the PGA Tour. As a result, he found himself eight shots adrift at the bottom of the St. Jude Championship leaderboard going into Friday's second round. MacIntyre's withdrawal has left his playing partner, J.T. Poston, to play his second round alone.

Patrick Cantlay Moving On Up at FedEx St. Jude

Patrick Cantlay carded a 1-under par during Thursday's first round, but he's put together a stronger showing Friday. Cantlay came out of the gate with a birdie on No. 2 and an eagle on No. 3. Another birdie on No. 6 got him to 4 under for the tournament. Though he bogeyed No. 8, he came back with another birdie on No. 12 and heads to the 14th hole at 5 under and in a tie for fourth place. Sungjae Im still leads the field at 8 under.

Chris Gotterup Bounces Back from Opening Bogey

After shooting 4 under during Thursday's first round, Chris Gotterup started Friday's second round with a bogey. The rest of his front nine was smooth sailing, though, as he made three birdies and five pars to get to 6 under for the tournament and sole possession of second place.

Sudarshan Yellamaraju Off to Hot Start Friday at FedEx St. Jude

Sudarshan Yellamaraju has gone from even to 5 under at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Yellamaraju eagled the par-5 No. 3 hole and has stacked three birdies on top of seven pars to get into an eight-way tie for third place. The lefty Canadian got his hot streak going on No. 3 with a 33-foot chip off the fringe of the green for eagle.

Keith Mitchell Flying Up FedEx St. Jude Leaderboard

Keith Mitchell started his second round with three consecutive birdies and added a fourth on the No. 7 hole to get himself into a tie for second place at 5 under for the tournament. Mitchell is three shots behind leader Sungjae Im, who continues to have a scorching hot start.

Sungjae Im Out to Roaring Start at FedEx St. Jude

Heading into Friday's second round, Sungjae Im was in the cluster of golfers just one stroke back of the lead. Three holes and three birdies later, Im finds himself in the lead by two shots. He started Friday with a birdie on the par-4 No. 1 after knocking down a smooth 17-foot putt.
