Egypt Secure Dominant 5-0 Victory Over South Sudan In Nations Cup Qualifying

Egypt secured their first victory in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, defeating South Sudan 5-0 in Juba on Tuesday. The commanding win moves Egypt to four points from their opening two Group B matches.

Ziko Breaks The Deadlock

Egypt struggled to find the breakthrough early on, but Mostafa Ziko finally opened the scoring in the 36th minute, after an earlier goal was disallowed for offside. This followed a goalless draw against Angola in the opening round.

The visitors asserted control after halftime, with Omar Marmoush doubling the lead in the 49th minute. Ibrahim Adel added a third in the 75th minute, and Marmoush completed his brace eight minutes later, extending the score to 4-0. Hamza Abdelkarim then added the final goal in stoppage time.

Marmoush’s goals marked his first competitive international strikes for Egypt since September 2025, when he converted a penalty against Ethiopia during World Cup qualifying.

The victory was achieved without captain Mohamed Salah, who was rested due to concerns about the artificial playing surface. Abdelkarim, an 18-year-old Barcelona forward, marked his senior national team debut with a goal.

South Sudan remain without a point after two matches, having lost 2-1 to Malawi in their opener. Egypt are aiming to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
