Bleacher Report analyst Jonathan Wasserman predicts the Celtics will hold the No. 27 pick in the 2027 draft, placing several promising players within their potential range.

Alijah Arenas Emerges as Potential Target

USC guard Alijah Arenas is generating significant buzz among scouts. As the son of three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, he possesses a notable basketball lineage. Wasserman highlighted Arenas’ advanced ball-handling, shot-creation, and shotmaking skills, acknowledging the challenges presented by a late start and injuries. Despite a modest 21.3% three-point shooting percentage and 32 turnovers, scouts are willing to overlook these shortcomings, anticipating improved decision-making and a more polished second-year performance.

Arenas’ USC Journey and Future Potential

Arenas’ college debut was delayed due to a torn meniscus, requiring surgery. He appeared in 14 games during the 2025-26 season, averaging 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and nearly one steal per game. Despite a field goal percentage of 34.1% and a three-point percentage of 21.3%, scouts believe his potential is immense, envisioning him as an NBA-level scorer with continued development. After withdrawing from the 2026 draft, Arenas returned to USC, providing him with an opportunity to significantly elevate his draft stock in the 2027 cycle.
