nBayer Leverkusen goalkeeper and captain Friederike Repohl has announced her decision to retire from professional football at the end of the current season. The 31-year-old, who has been with the Bundesliga club since 2021, revealed the news on Thursday.

Repohl out with knee injury
nThe German international has been sidelined since early February due to a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee. Leverkusen has brought in Rafaela Borggräfe, the U23 national goalkeeper on loan from Liverpool, to fill the void during Repohl's absence.

nRepohl joined Bayer Leverkusen from VfL Wolfsburg in 2021 and made 83 appearances for the Werkself, including 23 Bundesliga matches this season. Her contract expires in the summer.
