Baumgartner sidelined with lower body injury; season outlook uncertain
SC Bern will be without Benjamin Baumgartner for an extended period after he suffered a lower body injury during the first play-in game against the SCRJ Lakers. The Austrian-Swiss licensed player provided an update to MySports studio, confirming the severity of the setback.

Baumgartner faces lengthy recovery after injury
Initially, reports suggested Baumgartner's season was over, with a potential return not expected until May. However, the 25-year-old offered a glimmer of hope, stating he has completed the first phase of his rehabilitation and is focused on regaining strength in his foot. “I’m doing very well, I’ve completed the first part of my rehab today. I’m really looking forward to building strength in my foot again and starting to run,” Baumgartner said.
The injury comes at a critical juncture for SC Bern, as they compete in the play-in series against the SCRJ Lakers for the final playoff spot. A loss would end their season. “It will still take some time before I can get back on the ice. I only got rid of the crutches today. It’s the first day I can walk properly again.”
While optimistic about a potential return for the playoffs, Baumgartner acknowledges the emotional toll of being sidelined. He misses the camaraderie of the locker room and the energy of the games. “I’m mostly on my own, training alone or with the off-ice coach. I really miss the atmosphere in the arena, during the games and the emotions on the ice.”
The HC Davos currently dominates the regular season standings, making Bern’s playoff push all the more challenging. To reach the playoffs, SC Bern must first overcome the SCRJ Lakers. The play-in series will determine who makes the final playoff bracket.
Baumgartner's recovery will be closely watched by fans and the team as they navigate a critical stretch of the season. His return, if it happens, could significantly bolster SC Bern’s chances of a playoff run.
