Atlanta (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have recalled left-handed reliever Ray Kerr from the minor leagues and designated fellow lefty Danny Young for assignment ahead of their series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Kerr, 31, last pitched in the majors for the Braves in 2024 before undergoing Tommy John surgery that kept him sidelined in 2025. After completing his rehabilitation, the veteran southpaw resumed his pitching schedule in mid-July and has since appeared in nine games across four minor league affiliates, including Triple-A Gwinnett. In that span, Kerr has compiled a respectable 3.09 ERA while striking out 16 batters in 11 2/3 innings pitched.

In contrast, Young, also 32, struggled in his 16 appearances for Atlanta, going 0-1 with an elevated 8.03 ERA. The left-hander surrendered three earned runs, including a home run, in the Braves' 10-3 loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

With the Braves looking to bolster their bullpen depth, Kerr's promotion provides a welcome boost, while Young's demotion clears a roster spot. As the team continues its push for a postseason berth, the decision to recall Kerr signals the organization's confidence in his ability to contribute in high-pressure situations.
