Argentine ex-footballers face $2.6m debt in vegas casino lawsuit

Four former Argentine football players have been sued in a Las Vegas court for allegedly owing $2.6 million to a casino resort. The legal action targets ex-professionals Turu Flores, Sergio Berti, Sergio Zárate, and Norberto Ortega Sánchez, who received credit lines called 'makers' from Resorts World Las Vegas between January and April 2025. However, the resort claims these credits were not repaid, resulting in a total debt of $501,000 to Berti, $500,500 to Flores, $1,002,000 to Zárate, and $626,000 to Ortega Sánchez.

The debt, incurred while playing in the US, does not carry any criminal penalties in Argentina, but a US court could allow the seizure of the players' assets and restrict their entry to the country. The players were reportedly invited to Las Vegas by representative Maximiliano Palermo, who also covered their travel, accommodation, and meals. A promotional gift for the resort was included as part of the visit.
