Alonso, driving for Aston Martin, has been struggling in the early stages of the 2026 season, waiting for his team to introduce improvements to the AMR26B car. Meanwhile, Honda is also expected to bring updates soon, which could mark a turning point for Alonso and his teammate Pierre Gasly.

However, at Silverstone, things only seemed to go from bad to worse for Alonso. Despite a strong start, he found himself sandwiched between the Cadillacs of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, with Carlos Sainz's Williams just ahead.

Speaking earlier this season, Alonso acknowledged that, in the new era of Formula 1, drivers still rely heavily on their instincts and 'sensations' behind the wheel. But that intuition didn't help him here. Pérez attempted a daring pass on Alonso, only for the move to end in disaster for the Spaniard.

Pérez, deemed the worse offender by the stewards, was handed a 10-second penalty, but that was little consolation for Alonso, whose race was already over. He crossed the finish line a dismal 20th, his hopes of a better result shattered.

This wasn't the first time Alonso and Pérez have clashed this season. They engaged in a fierce battle for 10th place in Monaco, with Alonso ultimately emerging victorious, his only point of the opening rounds.
