Munich lions face struggling aue in crucial clash

The Munich Lions, riding a three-game winning streak, head to Aue on Tuesday evening with a clear mandate: maintain momentum against a team desperately seeking points. Despite Aue's dismal season, coach Markus Kauczinski insists his team won't underestimate the opposition.

The Lions, currently eighth in the 3. Liga table, are seven points behind the playoff spots and five points adrift of third-placed Duisburg. While a victory would propel them closer to promotion, Kauczinski isn't taking any chances. "They are as dangerous as any other team in the 3. Liga," he stated on the club's website. "Every task is special; we have to prepare for that. Even if Aue is in the relegation zone, they can play good football and have strong individual players. They will fight for every point."

Kauczinski's pragmatism stems from a recent game against TSG Hoffenheim II, where he felt his team afforded too much space and lacked aggression. "We gave the opponent too many spaces, didn't start aggressively enough, and lost too many balls. Defending is everyone's job. Each individual has to fulfill their tasks," he emphasized. The coach views the upcoming rotation of players as an opportunity for others to prove themselves, a move he had planned for the mid-week schedule anyway.

Personnel is a concern for the Lions, with several key players sidelined. Max Christiansen, Kilian Jakob, and Tunay Deniz remain long-term injuries, while Sean Dulic and Samuel Althaus are still recovering. Philipp Maier and David Philipp will also miss the match due to yellow-card suspensions. "The fewer there are, the fewer decisions I have to make," Kauczinski remarked, acknowledging the challenges but seeing a strategic advantage in the rotation.

The Lions’ recent form, three wins in a row, hasn’t fully satisfied the coaching staff. Kauczinski wants more urgency, a willingness to fight for every possession. "A team that believes it is arrogant does not belong at the top," he stated plainly. "We have to always bring our basics onto the field to be successful, simply have the desire to accept the fight."

The Lions will need to translate their recent wins into a tangible result against a team fighting for survival. Aue's struggles make for a potentially unpredictable encounter. The team's resilience will be tested.
