The former Bayern Munich captain took a pointed jab at the club's veteran leadership, specifically referencing Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who continue to hold positions on the supervisory board. Kahn's comments, made during a Sky interview, questioned the timeline of their departure, noting the repeated pronouncements of impending retirement that have yet to materialize.

“You hear it: ‘We’ll step back when the right people are found.’ This has been dragging on for many, many years,” Kahn stated. “And apparently, they still haven't found anyone.”

While Bayern has appointed Rouven Kasper as its new head of marketing, Kahn emphasized that broader restructuring efforts remain slow. The club parted ways with Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic in May 2023, a decision that drew criticism from fans. Kahn himself had a dramatic exit, with his stadium access revoked.

Hoeneß, in October, had dismissed suggestions that he and Rummenigge were hindering progress, asserting they would only step aside when confident in the capabilities of their successors. “Rummenigge and Hoeneß are constantly interfering,” Hoeneß said at the Munich Marketing Congress. “That’s simply not true.”

Kahn, who served as a board member from 2020 to 2021 and later as chairman until May 2023, offered a frank assessment of his time at the club. “That time is over for me. It’s the past. I’ve closed that door for myself and am focusing on other things.” His remarks suggest a lingering frustration with the club’s ongoing transition and the perceived lack of decisive leadership.

The situation highlights a persistent challenge for Bayern Munich: successfully navigating the succession of its influential figures while maintaining stability and on-field success. The club’s future direction remains a topic of speculation.
