Jalonen named top coach; juvonen earns player of the year honors
Cologne’s coach Kari Jalonen has been named the top coach in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), while goaltender Janne Juvonen of the Cologne Sharks has been awarded Player of the Year. The awards were announced Monday evening at an event in Cologne, capping off the regular season.

Juvonen's impressive season propels sharks to top spot
Juvonen, who joined the Sharks mid-season from HC Ambrì-Piotta, demonstrated immediate impact. In 26 games, he posted five shutouts and was instrumental in 20 wins. His stellar performance also earned him the title of DEL’s best goaltender.
The Sharks, under Jalonen’s guidance, dominated the regular season, setting a new league record with 116 points – surpassing the previous mark held by the Adler Mannheim from the 2018/19 season. This victory solidifies their position as a force to be reckoned with in the DEL.
Other award winners included Nicolas Mattinen of the Mannheim Adler as best defenseman and Riley Barber of ERC Ingolstadt as best forward.
The DEL regular season concluded on Sunday, with the playoffs set to begin on March 24th following the pre-playoff rounds.
