Bezzecchi secures fifth straight motogp win, shatters lap record
Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia has extended his dominance in MotoGP, claiming his fifth consecutive Grand Prix victory at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The Italian rider’s performance also shattered a significant lap record, solidifying his position as a force to be reckoned with this season.

Bezzecchi’s unstoppable streak
Bezzecchi’s victory marks a remarkable achievement, setting a new benchmark for sustained race pace. He lapped the field 121 times throughout the race, surpassing Jorge Lorenzo's previous record of 103 laps set in 2015. This isn't just a win; it's a statement of intent.
The result propelled Bezzecchi back to the top of the championship standings, overtaking his teammate Jorge Martín. Bezzecchi has been in phenomenal form, accumulating wins in Buriram, Thailand; Goiânia, Brazil; and now Austin, following victories at Portimao, Portugal, and Valencia, Spain, at the close of last season.
The race saw Bezzecchi decisively lead Martín and Pedro Acosta (KTM) to the chequered flag. World champion Marc Márquez, who had previously triumphed at Austin seven times, found himself out of contention. A 17th-place sprint finish relegated the Spaniard to fifth in the main race. Further compounding Márquez's difficulties, a long lap penalty, incurred due to an incident on Saturday, further hampered his progress. The race was a stark contrast to Márquez’s usual dominance.
Martín’s sprint victory the day before added another layer of intrigue to the weekend. He edged out Bezzecchi in a last-lap pass, a race Bezzecchi had been leading. While Bezzecchi recovered to win the main event, the sprint result demonstrated the close competition at the front.
The season continues April 24-26 with the first European round in Jerez, Spain. The challenge for Márquez is clear: to adapt and regain his competitive edge. Bezzecchi, however, appears to be in a league of his own.
