Beckenbauer's uefa presidency snub: a talent missed, says former manager höfl
Former football icon Franz Beckenbauer's reluctance to take the UEFA presidency is a talent loss that still stings for his long-time manager Marcus Höfl.
Beckenbauer's unique approach
Beckenbauer, widely regarded as the greatest German footballer of all time, was known for his unconventional ways, both on and off the pitch. Höfl, who managed the football legend's business affairs, recalled how Beckenbauer eschewed modern technology, never having an email address until he launched his own management firm in 1997.
However, his apparent disdain for digital matters didn't prevent him from surrounding himself with capable professionals who could handle those aspects on his behalf. This strategic partnership allowed Beckenbauer to focus on what he did best – building bridges between people and organizations.

A uefa presidency that never was
In 2011, Beckenbauer shocked the football world by resigning from his FIFA and UEFA positions. Höfl revealed that at the time, there was a strong push for Beckenbauer to become UEFA president, an opportunity Höfl believes the German great would have excelled at.
