Arbeloa defends real madrid's spirit after valverde red card, praises vinicius
Real Madrid’s veteran defender Álvaro Arbeloa has staunchly defended his team following their recent match, addressing both the controversial red card shown to Fede Valverde and the ongoing Liga title race. Speaking after the game, Arbeloa expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasized their resilience, even amidst adversity.
“We showed a character and mentality worthy of this shirt,” Arbeloa stated. “We had to suffer. I have a different vision of the referee on the red card, and I am grateful that he came to explain it to me.” He elaborated on the incident, explaining that he didn't perceive malicious intent behind Valverde’s challenge on Baena, despite the severity of the punishment.

Vinicius jr. in top form
Arbeloa also highlighted the exceptional form of Vinicius Jr., describing the winger as being “in his best moment.” He lauded Vinicius’s talent, courage, and willingness to take risks, even if it means making mistakes. “It’s a luxury to have him with us because of his desire to drive the team forward.”
Looking ahead, Arbeloa acknowledged the challenges of integrating new players like Jude Bellingham into the team, particularly mid-season. He expressed confidence in Bellingham’s progress, drawing parallels with Kylian Mbappé's development. “He’s been sidelined for a while, and I hope his progression is similar to that of Mbappé. We have to find him a place, ensure he integrates well with his teammates, and that he feels comfortable.”
Arbeloa also touched upon the tactical adjustments he's made to the team, aiming for a more compact and comfortable structure. He admitted to occasionally feeling the team relied too heavily on inspiration rather than a solid tactical framework.
Addressing speculation about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s benching, Arbeloa reiterated his commitment to selecting the best possible team for each match. “Every match I field the best possible team. Carvajal has had very good minutes and has given us a boost. I am happy to have so many options; this is the way.”
When questioned about doubters before the season, Arbeloa had a simple response: “They didn’t know the players we had.” He concluded with a firm belief in the team’s capabilities and their ability to continue fighting for the Liga title.
