Amman takes leap of faith, aiming to reclaim skispring glory

Despite a disappointing season, Simon Ammann, the four-time Olympic ski jumping champion, is not ready to hang up his skis just yet. The 44-year-old veteran announced he will continue to compete in the upcoming winter, determined to make a comeback.

Ammann's 2022-23 campaign was marked by a significant decline in form. He lost his World Cup start spot and narrowly missed out on Olympic qualification, with young talent Felix Trunz preferred over the seasoned Swiss skier. However, national coach Bine Norcic remains convinced of Ammann's motivation and potential for growth.

With a mere 41 points, Ammann finished the season in 46th place, a far cry from his former dominance. His best result was a 23rd-place finish in Sapporo. Now, he must fight to regain his spot in the national team ahead of the 2023-24 World Cup season.

Ammann has until May to impress coaches and secure a place in the A-team. With a half-year preparation period, the Toggenburger aims to recapture his winning form and prove that age is just a number in the high-flying world of ski jumping.
